The United Way of Daviess County awarded $1,500 scholarships for local students.
Students applying for the scholarships were requested to have at least a 3.0 GPA, provide their most current transcript, complete an application and turn in a 500 word essay on how they contribute to the community through volunteerism.
"We are happy to be able to offer high school scholarships for the first time that I'm aware of. We were able to gift a total of $6,000 for all four high schools in Daviess County," said United Way of Daviess County Executive Director Zella Taylor, "adding the scholarships were made possible with money leftover in the 2017 budget. This brought the question of, "what could we do to give back in our community outside of campaign allocation dollars?" With the board and committee approval, we were able to make this one of our impact projects."
